Community Events
CUYFD hosts free community events throughout the year on Detroit's Westside. At each one, residents get information on substance misuse and mental health and meet the local organizations that can help. Most events take place at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, CUYFD's partner in programming.

Community town halls
CUYFD holds a community town hall every quarter. Each town hall focuses on an issue facing young people and families, such as underage drinking, marijuana, opioids, tobacco and vaping, or mental health. Local experts, public officials, and young people speak on panels, and residents ask questions. Many town halls also include free Narcan training, resource tables from community organizations, food, and activities for children.
Recent town halls
December 2025: Mental health and substance misuse during the holidays, with keynote speaker Dr. Eddie Connor and panelists Dr. Porsha Lockett and Trent Sanford of DWIHN. The town hall was held with the Toys Making I.M.P.A.C.T.S. Community Christmas Party.
September 2025: Hope Over Harm, a town hall on opioid prevention at the Northwest Activities Center, with Valencia Lyle, Director of Behavioral Health Initiatives for the City of Detroit, and free Narcan training.

DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Unused or expired medications at home can lead to accidental poisoning and prescription drug misuse. CUYFD hosts a collection site for DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, where residents can drop off unused or expired medications for safe disposal. Drop-off is free and anonymous.
CUYFD hosts a collection site at the Hartford Memorial Baptist Church Wellness Center, 14000 W. Seven Mile Rd., Detroit, MI 48235, on DEA Take Back Day each April and October, from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Between Take Back Days, residents can pick up free medication disposal bags at Detroit Health Department Harm Reduction Wellness Stations.
